Veteran's Club founder pleads not guilty in unemployment fraud case

Jeremy Harrell is accused of receiving more than $100,000 worth of unemployment benefits from Veteran Affairs despite being ineligible to do so.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The founder of the Veteran's Club pleaded not guilty to allegedly receiving thousands of dollars in unemployment benefits illegally.

Jeremy Harrell is accused of receiving more than $100,000 worth of unemployment benefits from Veteran Affairs despite being ineligible to do so.

A federal grand jury indictment said Harrell started receiving benefits in 2011 before founding the Veteran's Club in 2019.

Court documents said, in February of 2019, the VA wrote letters to everyone receiving benefits saying they must "notify [the] VA immediately if there is a change in any condition affecting their right to continued [Individual Unemployability] benefits."

Investigators said his volunteer work shows he was capable of maintaining employment, making him ineligible for benefits. He is also accused of lying to the VA about the extent his work activity.

Harrell is due back in court on Jan. 2, 2024.
