LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Three years after a restoration project began at the Louisville Water Tower, statues that surrounded the landmark have now been returned.
The more than 100-year-old statues were removed in October 2020 as Louisville Water prepared to restore the Tower and Pumping Station No. 1.
The statues depict nine Greek and Roman gods and goddesses as well as an Indian hunter with his dog.
According to Louisville Water, the statues were sent to a restoration facility in Washington D.C. for repair.
Over the course of time, crews repaired damage bricks and wood, painted the Tower, and restored ornamental details dating back to the 1860s.
The historical landmark plans to reopen the site soon for tours and rentals.
