LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mayor Craig Greenberg and city leaders broke ground on the newest $1.3 million park in southwest Louisville.
Windsor Park will be located on nearly 11 acres of property donated by the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) and the Windsor Forest Homeowners Association.
“This park is a great start for Metro’s investment in the south end," Councilman Khalil Batshon said. "This will be the first park for District 25 and will give our residents new amenities to cool down in the summer and to take a relaxing walk throughout the year.”
Windsor Park will be home to a playground, walking path, shaded areas and even a spray ground.
While construction is starting this spring, officials said the work to complete this park, as well as efforts to bring additional amenities to the park, will go into the summer.
Following the donation of land, the planning for this park started in 2022.
The $1.3 million in funding for the project was made available through the reallocation of American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding and general funds.
Officials said the park will also serve as a "trailhead location for the Louisville Loop, further connecting the community of Louisville."
“Windsor Park will be a great outdoor place for our Southwest Louisville families to enjoy and the groundbreaking today shows we are ready to make progress together to get the job done," Greenberg said. "From a playground to a walking path, shade structures and more, this is going to be an incredible addition to our city with something for everyone to enjoy."
