Tickets on sale for Louisville Zoo's 'Boo at the Zoo'

The Louisville Zoo will turn into a living storybook with plenty of spooky fun including costumes and trick-or-treating.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Zoo's popular spooktacular "Boo at the Zoo" returns this September and tickets are on sale now.

The more than 40-year tradition turns the zoo into a living storybook, complete with music, photo opportunities and, of course, trick-or-treating for children 11 and under.

Children and adults are invited to dress up as their wildest, friendly-family costumes for the after-hours event. Costume masks that cover the entire face are not allowed for adults, however.

"Boo at the Zoo" runs from Sept. 28 through Oct. 27 every Thursday through Sunday night. It will be held rain or shine.

Tickets are $13.50 for non-members 3 and older and $7 for all members 3 and older. Children ages 2 and under get in free.

Officials said tickets are limited each night with popular nights expected to sell out fast. A limited number of "anytime tickets" can be purchased at participating Meijer stores for $11.50 starting Sept. 20.

The event begins at 5 p.m., with guests entering at their ticketed time until 9 p.m. the trick-or-treat route closes at 10 p.m., and everyone will need to leave the zoo.

As for the animals, officials said you may spot some animal ambassadors, but most won't be viewable in the evening so they can rest and maintain their regular schedules.
