Louisville's 'snow team' prepares for winter season

It's that time of the year again and Metro Public Works says its snow team will be ready in the event of winter weather.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville’s snow team will be on standby all winter and ready to respond in the event severe winter weather strikes.

The team covers 2,700-miles of roadway across the Louisville metro, salting and brining roads before a severe weather event. Afterward, they are out with snowplows clearing the roadways.

“Upwards of 200 team members from dispatchers, mechanics, truck drivers, heavy equipment operators, administrative personnel, IT and GIS professionals all come together working around the clock with one goal – to ensure the public is safe and ensure our roads are save for travel," Metro Public Works director Jennifer Caummisar-Kern said.

The City of Louisville says it has 160 pieces of snow fighting equipment and 38,000 tons of salt ready to go for the winter.
