Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The only person, who claims to know who shot a 2-year-old girl and her mother, is a convicted murderer who will get his prison sentence cut in return for his testimony.

It's the latest twist in the trial of the two men accused of killing Earon Harper and critically wounding her toddler.

The two suspects both admit they were in Earon Harper's house the night of the shooting. They've pointed the finger at each other and police don't know who pulled the trigger.

Only one man claims to know based on what defendant Kenneth Williams told him.

The question is whether jurors have any reason to believe him.

He's the only prosecution witness who has fingered one of two guys as the killer of Earon Harper and the shooter of her 2-year-old daughter, Erica Hughes, leaving her for dead.

It was a brazen, cold blooded shooting inside Harper's house three years ago. Both defendants, James Quisenberry and Kenneth Williams have admitted they were in the house pressuring Harper for prescription drugs.

The jury hasn't been allowed to hear each accusing the other of being the trigger man.

Jurors did hear from Rashon Turner who says he saw Williams the night of the killing with pills and a gun in his hand, Williams telling turner he was the shooter.

But that testimony comes from a guy who's got 14 gunshot wounds and is a murderer himself. He's pleaded guilty and is facing a life sentence unless he testifies for the prosecution in this case and two others.

Then prosecutors will recommend turner get just 15 years.

Another testifying convict, Williams' brother, says Williams never confessed to Turner that he shot anyone.

The defense rested after calling just three other witnesses. Neither Williams nor Quisenberry spoke a word before the judge sent potentially confused jurors home for the weekend.

Closing arguments in this case are scheduled for Monday. Quisenberry and Williams could face the death penalty if they're convicted, even if jurors can't figure out which one shot a mother and her 2-year-old daughter.
