Man in critical condition after shooting in New Albany

Police say it happened in the 300 block of West 8th Street.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — A man is in critical condition after a shooting in New Albany, according to a press release from the New Albany Police Department.

They say it happened around 10:06 a.m. in the 300 block of West 8th Street. 

When officers arrived to the home they found a man outside who has been shot. Indiana State Police is now heading the investigation after the New Albany Police Department is still searching for answers in the Harvest Homecoming shooting that killed an 18-year-old. 

ISP says they believe two men were involved, including a 17-year-old. "We are still working on the details, and our investigators are presently interviewing the parties that are involved," Trooper Hensley said. 

The 17-year-old suspected to be involved in the case was apprehended, according to New Albany Chief of Police Todd Bailey. ISP says that person is being questioned. 

The man was taken to UofL Hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

All parties involved in this case have been accounted for and there is no further risk to public safety, the release said. Trooper Hensley assured the community that ISP and NAPD are taking the shootings seriously. He said, "New Albany is a very safe community, it has a lot of people it has a great police department and supporting agencies for the city." He added, "So to say as a resident of New Albany or Floyd County in general I'm worried about my safety, I'm not.

They did not provide any information about what lead up to the shooting.

The investigation is on-going.
