LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is dead after a crash in the Avondale Melbourne Heights neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) responded to a call for service on a report of a crash in the 3700 block of Taylorsville Road near Furman Boulevard around 1 p.m.

Police said their preliminary investigation, along with witness statements, revealed that a motorcyclist, operated by an adult male, was traveling eastbound on Taylorsville Road in the left-hand lane from the Watterson Expressway. He was traveling at a "high rate of speed" when the operator hit the end of a passenger vehicle, driven by an adult female driver, who was in the process of making a left-hand turn.

LMPD said that impact caused the operator to lose control and was ejected off the motorcycle.

EMS, along with Louisville Fire and Rescue, responded to the scene. EMS transported the man to UofL Hospital where he died shortly after.

LMPD’s Traffic Unit will be handling this investigation.
