Woman found dead in New Albany home, 23-year-old arrested

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — New Albany Police (NAPD) is investigating after a woman was found dead inside a home on Wednesday.

NAPD Police Chief Todd Bailey said officers were called to the 3400 block of Greenview Drive for a possible homicide just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday. That's near Green Valley Road.

When they arrived, Bailey said police found the body of 56-year-old Sally Samourian. 

Authorities also found a 23-year-old man inside the residence who was arrested and remains in police custody. The man's identity has not been released. 

According to NAPD, the man remains "under guard" at a hospital in Louisville where he is being treated for "an unrelated issues to the case and his apprehension." Bailey said it's unclear when he will return to Floyd County.

Bailey said there is no threat to public safety.

"New Albany is a very safe community with little violent crime," he added on Thursday. "Cases like this are shocking when they occur. The NAPD is dedicated continuing to ensure our community is a safe place." 

The NAPD Criminal Investigations Division, with the assistance of the Indiana State Police, is handling the case according to Bailey.
