LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man was sentenced on Wednesday for multiple felony charges, according to a release from the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

A jury found Kenyatta James guilty in August on charges of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. These charges were in connection to a 2021 shooting.

The jury also found James guilty of being a persistent felony offender in the second degree.

The release says in Feb. 2021 around 7 p.m. two women got into a fight outside the victims home. One of the women then called James over to the address.

When James arrived, the victim was on the porch telling everyone to leave. This is when James shot the victim several times and he later died from his injuries.

“These senseless killings need to stop, for the sake of our city,” Commonwealth’s Attorney  Gerina Whethers said. “Too many lives are being lost to gun violence, and while this defendant is being held accountable for his actions, we need to do more as a community to put an end to shootings before they start.”

James is facing a total 40 years of prison time. He is not eligible for probation or shock probation and must serve at least 20 years of his sentence before being considered for parole.
