LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man has died after Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) said he shot himself during a foot pursuit in the Chickasaw neighborhood on Tuesday.
According to authorities, LMPD officers tried to stop a vehicle in the 4300 block of Sunset Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
Officers said a man got out of the vehicle and ran through neighboring houses onto Kaiser Court.
Investigators said their initial investigation indicates during the chase, the suspect got a gun and shot himself. LMPD said no officers discharged their weapons.
Officers detained him and rendered aid until Louisville Metro EMS transported him to the hospital where he later died police said.
LMPD's Public Integrity Unit is investigating.
"We appreciate the cooperation from all the neighbors this incident has affected," LMPD said.
