LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man is soon to be sentenced on manslaughter charges after two others die in shooting, according to a press release from the Jefferson Circuit Court.
Karson Reitz was found guilty on Friday on two counts of manslaughter in the second degree and one count of wanton endangerment in the first degree.
According to court testimony, in Dec. 2021 the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to a shooting in a restaurant in the 7000 block of Preston Highway.
When officers arrived they found two men had been shot. One man died at the scene and the other was taken to UofL hospital where he later died.
Reitz was seen on security cameras firing a gun inside the restaurant and hitting the two victims.
In a post-Miranda statement Reitz admitted to the shooting but said he was acting in self-defense.
The jury recommended Reitz be sentenced to 17 years in prison for his crimes. A formal sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 13, 2024 at 1 p.m. in Division 9 of the Jefferson County Circuit Court.
