LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS) – The man charged with murder after getting in an accident on Dixie Highway and Greenwood Road made his first court appearance Monday.

27-year-old Roy Thompson faces a long list of charges, and a background check reveals it's not his first time in a courtroom. Thompson is charged with murder, three first degree assault charges, three charges of wanton endangerment, driving under the influence, and criminal mischief.

Thompson pleaded not guilty to the all of those charges.

He is charged with murder after his girlfriend, Shelley Hurt, died in the accident. She was riding the passenger seat of the Crown Victoria police said Thompson was driving.

Hurt leaves behind two children. They lost their father almost a year to the date they lost their mom. He died on January 9th, 2014. She died Sunday January 18th, 2015.

They are now in the care of their grandmother. A fund through PNC Bank has been set up to help raise money for the kids, and pay for the funeral costs.
