'It's a witch hunt!' | Woman says she supported Trump when he was President and will support him now

Linda Dement described herself to WUSA9 as the loudest Trump supporter in Calvert County.

HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — On Thursday, Former President Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts in the criminal case brought against him by the state of New York for falsifying business records.

Prosecutors say Trump tried to cover up hush money payments made to ex-adult entertainer Stormy Daniels. Just minutes after the verdict was announced, Linda Dement says her phone began blowing up.

"I was driving home from Florida vacation which was a nightmare in itself. Someone said 'I hate to make your day even worse', and they told me about the verdict and I was just devastated," she explained.

Dement grew up in Calvert County and now lives along Rt. 4 in Huntingtown.

She told WUSA9 she's likely the loudest Trump supporter in Calvert County, where Trump won in both the 2016 and 2020 elections.

"Well that's what I'm told anyway. I'm definitely the most vocal. I got a mouth and I use it vigorously," she said.

On Thursday, many called Trump's guilty verdict a historic moment. Dement called it, "more idiots doing stupid stuff". She added that she agreed with the former President's statements, "like he said it's a witch hunt and I know that's what it was. They hate that man so bad".

In 2016, she decorated the outside of her home to show her support for the former President.

Dement told WUSA9 she got complaints about the tea lights, so she removed them.

"I put total vegetation. I put 'Trump' across the hill," she said.

She also had a flag flying, that she says was stolen.

"They stole my flagpole in 2016, I built it up bigger better, electrified it. I figure if you're gonna touch it now you're gonna be laying there the next day," said Dement.

She says Trump had her support in 2016, and still has it now.

"I don't consider myself Trump crazy. I just want the country better," she explained.

"Trump's got a mouth, I've got a mouth. He says some things sometimes where I'm like 'oh Trump tone it down', but he was a good President. The economy was good. Our parents were eating, our seniors could go to the grocery store, we could put gas in our cars with Trump. Ya'll don't get that with Biden," she said.

As for November, if he's on the ballot, she says he can count on her vote.

"Of course I'm voting for him," she told WUSA9."I don't care what he did before he was President. Clinton did it while he was President, in the Oval Office".

She told WUSA9 once it's determined that he'll be on the ballot in November, she plans to put her decorations and signs back up.
