Mayor Greenberg introduces 'Mayorthon' racing series set to begin in September

Mayor Craig Greenberg announced a new racing series where runners and walkers have four more opportunities to stay active and compete throughout the year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg has announced a new four-part race series where runners and walkers will have more opportunities to stay active.

The Planet Fitness Mayorthon Race Series will add two new races, The Bourbon and Beyond 5K and the Race the Runway 5.02K, along with existing races Pure Tap 5K and the Norton Sports Health 4-Miler.

Here’s what the race schedule will look like:

  • The Louisville Pure Tap 5K will be held on Sept. 7 at the Louisville Water Tower on River Road at Zorn Avenue.
  • The Bourbon and Beyond 5K will be held on Sept. 21 at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center. Organizers said runners will have opportunities to run through the Fairgrounds while experiencing some “special surprises along the way.”
  • The Norton Sports Health 4-Miler takes place on Sept. 30 at Iroquois Park
  • Race the Runway 5.02K will take place on Nov. 16 and will happen at Bowman Field. The unique run and walk allows participants a chance to run on the runway to finish out the series.

Those who take part in the races will receive a “free” classic Planet Fitness membership through the date of the race. There will also be commemorative medals for the Bourbon and Beyond 5K and Race the Runway 5.02K. If you complete all four, you receive an official Planet Fitness Mayorthon Challenge Coin.

“As mayor, I’m working to make our city safer, stronger, and healthier. I’m excited to launch the Planet Fitness Mayorthon Race Series to give more Louisvillians the opportunity to experience the joy of running, and the health benefits and the community connection that running provides,” Greenberg said.
