LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mayor Craig Greenberg is expected to make a significant announcement regarding Louisville Metro Police leadership on Monday.

UPDATE: On Monday, Sept. 16, the mayor appointed Humphrey as LMPD's new police chief. Read more here.

The department has been without a permanent chief since June.

Jacqueline Gwinn-Villaroel was suspended as police chief on June 12 and officially resigned on June 25.

Since then, Paul Humphrey has served as interim chief.

Humphrey recently expressed a desire for the permanent position and Greenberg said he was not planning on conducting a national search.

“I’m definitely interested in doing this permanently. Obviously, there has been dynamics that have happened over the last couple of months that I have very little control over,” he said.

Greenberg complimented Humphrey and said he was doing a “wonderful job” and “making a lot of good progress” as interim chief.

Greenberg and members of LMPD’s command staff will make that announcement around 10:30 a.m.
