LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, officers, family and the public remembered fallen officer Nick Rodman on Thursday morning at Jefferson Square.

A wreath was laid in front of the fallen officer's memorial that will soon be engraved with Rodman’s name. Rodman was killed during a pursuit when his car crashed and caught fire at 26th and Duncan in Portland.

He was taken off life support on Wednesday and died in the afternoon at University Hospital.

It was a somber scene as Fischer and Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Steve Conrad remembered Rodman.

Fischer said the Rodman family has served the city of Louisville for 41 years.

“The Rodman family is one of the great families of LMPD,” Fischer said.

“I am deeply touched by the number of people here,” Chief Conrad said.

Members of the Metro Council joined Fischer and Conrad, along with state Attorney General Andy Beshear at the memorial service.

Details on a public or private service have not been announced, but someone with LMPD says that information should available soon.

The River City FOP Auxiliary has opened an account at the Louisville Metro Police Officers Credit Union in Nick Rodman's name, if you would like to donate to the Rodman family.
