LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Kentucky Senator and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell honored the sacrifice of four police officers who are being recognized during National Police Week.

“With more than three decades of combined service, these heroic Kentuckians left behind spouses, children, and an entire Commonwealth mourning their tragic losses,” McConnell said from the Senate floor.

In addition to those remarks, McConnell also met with officers from Louisville Metro Police Tuesday.

Members of the department are in Washington this week in honor of Detective Deidre Mengedoht who died in a crash during a traffic stop on Christmas Eve.

Sergeant Ben Bertram of Charlestown, Indiana will also be recognized this week.

Both will be honored at the National Peace Officers' memorial Service tomorrow morning at the Capitol.
