Kentucky officials receive medical cannabis applications hours after portal opens

Application fees run between $3,000 to $20,000, depending on the size of the facility, and those fees are non-refundable.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The above video aired July 1, 2024.

Since medical marijuana was signed into law in Kentucky well over a year ago, there has been a lot of interest to try to capitalize on it.

So much so that people and businesses started setting up accounts and filling out applications minutes after the portal opened.

According to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, they had received eight applications by 6 a.m. on July 1. Since then, that number has grown to 13.

Applications are only accepted online and a guide for all that is required can be found here.

Of those, seven filled out dispensary applications, four filled out cultivator applications and two filled out processor applications.

Application fees run between $3,000 to $20,000, depending on the size of the facility, and those fees are non-refundable.

During the application process, the Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program has 15 calendar days to acknowledge receipt of an application. Then it could take as many as 45 calendar days more to learn if an application is approved or denied.
