LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville police joined family and friends of fallen Ofc. Nick Rodman for a memorial service at Cave Hill Cemetery on Friday.
Rodman died in the line of duty seven years ago after a crash during a pursuit. The high-speed chase started after Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) responded to a call of a domestic situation and shots being fired at 26th and Madison Streets.
This ended with the suspect, Wathaniel Woods, crashing into Rodman's police cruiser at an estimated speed of 78 miles per hour. Rodman later died at the hospital.
He was 30 years old and left behind a wife and two children.
Rodman's brother, Lt. Andrew Rodman, is also on the force. He spoke about his brother's legacy at the service.
"What stands out the most is he lived a life not of words but of actions. His actions were caring, honest and principled but most importantly they were done quietly without recognition," he said.
Woods was charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, wanton endangerment, trafficking a controlled substance and a number of other charges. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison a year later.
