Miss Kentucky travels to compete in Miss USA pageant

Miss Kentucky USA is now heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to compete in the Miss USA pageant.
UofL graduate Katie George will compete on July 12 against 49 other women for the title of Miss USA 2015.

LOUISVILLE, Ky (WHAS11) -- Miss Kentucky USA is now heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to compete in the Miss USA pageant.

Katie George, a UofL graduate, won the title of Miss Kentucky USA 2015 and is now off to compete against 49 other women for the title of Miss USA 2015. Before traveling with her mother to ready herself for the competition on July 12, she sat down and talked about her experience as Miss Kentucky.

Among her most enjoyable moments as Miss Kentucky, George was very excited to have fed carrots to Triple-Crown winner American Pharoah. Another highlight of her reign was the visit she took just last week to the Kosair Children's Hospital were she met with some of the children. George said that she felt like she had been able to use the reign to the best of her abilities and that even if she lost at the Miss USA pageant, she had still won by being Miss Kentucky.

George says she plans on returning to UofL to finish her last year eligibilty on the volleyball team as well as work on her master's degree
