Mt. Washington leadership doesn't renew police chief's contract, announces temporary chief

Mt. Washington's mayor, Stuart Owen, said the police chief's last day as a member of the department is on June 30.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There has been a change in police leadership in Mt. Washington.

Mt. Washington's mayor, Stuart Owen, said the police chief's last day as a member of the department is on June 30. Chief Marcus Laytham learned about this on Tuesday.

Owen said they decided to not renew his employment contract and that the reason for removal was "a change of leadership within the department."

Lt. Col. Dan Kelty will be the temporary Chief of Police for the foreseeable future the mayor said.
