'I'd have to be six feet under to miss it': Mt. Washington woman hosts 'witches brunch'

The annual event is a time to honor women and the hard work they do year round.

MT WASHINGTON, Ky. — It's spooky season which means it's time to fill the candy bowl, light your jack-o-lanterns and finalize those costumes.

For one Mount Washington woman, Halloween is an opportunity to gather with her friends and celebrate them.

"I wanted to women in my life to know that I loved them and they mean something to me and they're important," brunch host Stacy Edrington said.

Tens of women gathered together on Halloween weekend to drink, be merry and celebrate friendship between women.

And dress up as witches to celebrate the season, of course.

"It wouldn't be Halloween without the witches brunch. I'd have to be six feet under to miss it," witchy attendee Dawn Norton.

There were over 20 ladies at the event and many who have been attendees for years.

"The witches brunch is just a fun celebration to bring women together this time of the year," another attendee Ruthie Fuchs said.

Edrington says the annual event is a time to honor women and the hard work they do year round.

"I feel like women are constantly having to do a lot of the mental work load of a lot of their families and so I wanted a day where they didn't have to do anything. They just show up,"  Edrington said. "Ladies love to just have cocktails and eat chicken and biscuits and gravy and bacon and I mean what's better than that."

It was a supportive environment as well. Many of the ladies complimented each others beautiful witchy costumes. There was also a photo booth at the brunch for guests to take spooky (but more often silly) photos with the other witches.

"Its fun getting all dress up and you know we just all com together and it's like we're all little kids again," Diana Harping said.

"It's the costumes," Teresa Tarter said.

"Yeah and just seeing people like be silly. You know, there's no room for silliness it seems," Harping said.

The ladies really get into their costumes every year they meet for brunch. Fuchs said the ladies feed off each others good vibes and really go all out.

"And so every year we kind of try to out do each other," she said.

But this event isn't for just one kind of woman. Women of all ages and backgrounds come to the witches brunch and everyone just wants to have fun and enjoy themselves during the party.

Of course, many of the women talked about the great food and fun they had at the event. Most of all, the women loved getting to be themselves with other women and share in the comradery of female friendship.

"I can't pick a dude to save my life but I have picked amazing women," Edrington said.
