LOUISVILLE, Ky. — June 3 marks the three-year anniversary of the passing of boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
The Louisville native will be celebrated from 7-8:30 p.m. at an annual memorial at the Muhammad Ali Center. Speakers will include friends and family of Ali.
Ali is known as "The Greatest," remaining the only three-time lineal heavyweight boxing champion, defeating Sonny Liston, George Foreman and Leon Spinks. He also won a gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games for light heavyweight boxing.
Outside of boxing, the Supreme Court overturned Ali's controversial conviction in 1967 for refusing to be drafted during the Vietnam War, citing his religious beliefs.
Ali also spent much of his later life dedicating himself to philanthropy, donating millions to charities before he died from septic shock as a result of his Parkinson's disease in 2013.
