Near-drought conditions prompt burn ban in Bullitt County

A burn ban is in effect until further notice as dry weather is expected to impact Kentucky for the next several days.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As dry weather is expected for the next several days in Kentucky and southern Indiana, many counties are under near-drought conditions.

Officials have announced a burn ban for Bullitt County.

According to the Zoneton Fire Protection District, conditions in the area are “exceptionally dry” meaning that any fire outside can start easily and travel fast.

Bullitt County Judge Executive Jerry Summers ordered the county-wide ban that began Saturday and lasts until substantial or consistent rainfall occurs.

What can’t you do during a burn ban?

According to the Kentucky Division of Forestry burn bans prohibit the following:

  • Burning of forest, grass, crops, woodlands, marshes or other similar areas.
  • Burning leaves or debris.
  • Campfires, bonfires and warming fires.
  • Open pit cooking and charcoal grilling.
  • Use of fireworks and welding may also be prohibited or regulated.
