OLDHAM CO., Ky. (WHAS) – Persistent offender, Rebecca Johnson of Crestwood, Kentucky is facing new charges. Family members of a DUI victim have expressed concerns over Johnson’s continual disregard for the law.
Johnson was responsible for a drunk-driving crash that killed two friends, Justin Cantrell and Ben McIntosh on July 6, 2006. She was convicted of manslaughter in connection to the incident.
Nearly a decade after Cantrell’s untimely death, his family’s wounds wear raw with every new charge Johnson is arrested for. Justin Cantrell’s family tells WHAS11 News they do not understand why she is cycling in and out of the justice system when she continues to violate the law. While justice will not bring their loved one back, they are concerned that her actions may negatively affect another family.
In the ten years since the fatal crash, Johnson has been arrested on multiple charges in multiple counties.
According to court records, Johnson is scheduled to appear in Oldham County Court for arraignment on June 2 at 9 a.m.
Johnson also has charges pending in Jefferson County dating back to an arrest in October 2015. According to online court records, she is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County Circuit Court on July 6, 2016.
Coincidentally, that day will mark exactly a decade since the horrific crash that killed Cantrell and McIntosh.
Johnson was arrested and charged with several drug-related charges as well as being a convicted felon carrying a concealed deadly weapon in October of 2015.
Johnson was out of jail on bond when she was indicted on charges including trafficking meth over two grams, a class C felony and persistent felony offender on May 13, according to Oldham County Criminal Court Clerk. On May 24, Johnson was served the warrant and arrested. She spent less than 24 hours in jail before being bonded out for $1000 cash on a $10,000 bond.
