New hotel proposed for downtown Louisville

The proposal was made to the city for a Hyatt house/Hyatt Place hotel to be constructed on the property where a building currently stands.

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- A new hotel could be popping up at the corner of Market and 2nd streets.

The proposal was made to the city for a Hyatt house/Hyatt Place hotel to be constructed on the downtown property.

The hotel proposal states the hotel will include 273 rooms and meeting rooms, a restaurant bar, and other traditional hotel amenity spaces on the first floor.

Attorney Cliff Ashburner submitted the proposal for a Hyatt House/Hyatt Place Hotel July 1. He tells us that they are in the beginning stages.

They just submitted the proposal and need to have a sight plan approval known as a Category 3 Review. Martin Carney with Carney Management Company is the developer on the project.

Kim Delaney who works closely with the seller, Gus Goldsmith, says the building has been on the market for one and a half years. She says Goldsmith has had other interested buyers, but felt Carney was the best person to develop this property.

Ashburner says they're excited to bring a new and interesting hotel to the booming Whiskey Row Area.
