New resolutions aim to create 3 new Louisville landmarks

The Metro Council Planning and Zoning Committee looked at resolutions to designate Wheelman’s Bench, Manual Stadium and Iroquois Amphitheater as historic areas.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Three iconic areas in Louisville are up for discussion to be declared landmarks.

The Metro Council Planning and Zoning Committee looked at resolutions to designate Wheelman’s Bench, Manual Stadium and Iroquois Amphitheater as historic areas.

Historic preservation officer Savannah Darr made it clear that creating a landmark designation does not mean the areas cannot be changed or developed. However, it would create a more intensive process if changes were to be made.

“It’s just so important to preserve local history and tell Louisville’s story and so again, it’s not putting a lot of limitations on what can be done with the property. I think for us as a city, saying these things are important to telling Louisville’s story,” she said.

The resolutions for all three passed and they are now headed to the full council.
