LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The construction team at the new Norton West Louisville Hospital reached a significant milestone Wednesday. The completion of the steel installation and the final beam marked the beginning of the next phase of development.
The hospital is expected to open sometime in November of 2024, and Norton Healthcare said it's been long overdue.
"In many ways, I'm so proud that we have finally taken a step that hasn't been taken in 150 years, and in some ways, there's a little bit of regret and remorse that it took us this long to get here but we look forward we always look where were going and we never forget what caused us to get here," President and CEP Russell Cox said.
The Topping Off ceremony also recognized the life of Jessica Barr, a longtime Norton Healthcare construction team member, who passed away in August. She and her family were passionate supporters of the west Louisville hospital.
“Health care is a basic human right, and every Kentuckian deserves access close to home,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. "This milestone gets us one step closer to the better Kentucky we all want: where none of our kids and grandkids have to leave home, because they have all the resources and opportunities they need right here.”
According to a news release, there will be a "24/7 emergency department; inpatient treatment; operating rooms; imaging services, including X-ray, CT and MRI; and a retail pharmacy." The outpatient services will include adult and pediatric care, women's services, behavioral health services and more.
There will also be a community room, an outdoor green space and a food pantry.
