Bock Fest and Wurst Fest brings out community for goat racing, family fun

All eyes were on the Forecast Dash Race. A new winner was crowned!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Saturday’s chilly and breezy weather didn’t stop the hundreds from gathering in NuLu for the annual Bock Fest and Wurst Fest.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of entertainment including music and games.

The tradition of the event traces back to the mid-19th century to mark the changing of the season when the dark German lager, known as bock, was released across the city after a winter of aging.

Many came out for the wurst competition and crowd favorite, baby goat racing.

WHAS11 kept the trophy in the family for a third year but with a different winner. Meteorologist Sam Gabrielli took home top honors in the Forecast Dash Race with fellow meteorologist Alden German as first runner-up.

“I'm proud of my goat, and hopefully next year we can keep it going. I know Alden won the previous two years. This year I kept WHAS on the map – brought it to WHAS for a third year. Alden was slacking, but I made sure I picked up the slack,” he said.

German replied, “Did you say I was slacking? I wasn't slacking but it stays in the family! Number one!”

The proceeds from the win will be donated to the Kentucky Humane Society.
