"Designated driver" faces murder charge after early-morning fatal accident

The accident, which left one motorcyclist dead, happened on 2nd and Broadway.

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - A woman is facing a murder charge after police said she crashed into a motorcycle, killing its rider.

Just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a fatal car accident on 2nd and Broadway.

In addition to the murder charges, Jane Watts, 27, faces operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and wanton endangerment.

An initial investigation indicates the female driver of the car turned in front of the motorcyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers reported it appeared the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

According to reports, officers said they were able to smell alcohol on Watts. When asked about it, Watts is reported to have admitted to drinking earlier in the evening but was the designated driver.

Officers placed Watts under arrest. Results from a blood test are still pending, but reports indicate a breathalyzer test administered to Watts resulted in .193.
