LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Authorities are investigating the cause of a structure fire in Old Louisville.
The Louisville Fire Department (LFD) said it responded to a fire in the 1200 block of South Fourth Street around 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming out of the second and third floor windows of a three-story building.
Crews entered the building and found a heavy fire on the second floor apartment, which was vacant, and firefighters began working to control the blaze from inside the building.
An LFD spokesperson said it took 25 firefighters less than 30 minutes to control the fire and crews were unable to find anyone inside the building during a search.
"In these colder months, it's really imperative to stay safe in your intent to stay warm," Capt. Donovan Sims with Louisville Fire said. "Space heaters, if you're going to use space heaters, make sure you're keeping a three foot radius clear around those space heaters. You don't want to have any type of material that is possible that can catch on fire and cause a fire."
No injuries were reported, officials said.
Sims later confirmed to WHAS11 News there was an incendiary cause, and they are working to find the person responsible for the fire.
