LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Old Louisville neighborhood was just named one the American Planning Association’s Great Places in America list.

The survey celebrates neighborhoods, streets and public spaces of exemplary character, quality and planning.

Old Louisville is the first neighborhood designated for this honor in the city of Louisville, joining West Main Street, which was designated as a Great Street in 2008.

“My first thought when I heard of this designation is anybody really surprised. It can’t be a surprise because we all know, we already know what a special place Old Louisville is,” said Rep. John Yarmuth.

There are two other Great Place designees in Kentucky: Fountain Square in Bowling Green in 2010 and the Historic Licking Riverside in Covington in 2013.
