OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. — A Louisville man is in custody hours after a late-night manhunt ended early Monday morning.
The Oldham County Police Department (OCPD) said FLOCK cameras identified a stolen vehicle traveling east on Highway 146 into Oldham County around 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 24.
An OCPD officer spotted the vehicle and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled. According to police, the driver later abandoned the car on Friendship Drive, just off Highway 146, in Pewee Valley.
Police then began an extensive search of the surrounding area to locate the driver.
“During this time, a resident reported as they returned home, a subject was in their home and fled out the back, with two of the owner’s guns,” a spokesperson said.
OCPD said “multiple locations” were searched with the help of drones and Louisville Metro Police's Air Unit, including near the home where the burglary was reported, but the suspect could not be found.
The manhunt ended around midnight Monday morning, but officers remained in the area throughout the night.
In an update Monday afternoon, authorities said there was "no indication" the suspect was still in the area.
Hours later, Chief Greg Smith said officers responded to Sedley Court around 2:45 p.m. on a report of a suspicious person walking between homes.
Police later found the individual, identified as 36-year-old Michael Hulak, near 9300-B Ash Avenue, near an old landfill.
Smith said Hulak initially denied his identity, but later admitted his true identity.
Hulak has been charged with a warrant for parole violation and giving a police officer false information.
"Additional charges are pending the investigation," Smith said.
