Metro Council committee passes One Park tax funding

Project developers argued Tuesday that with high construction prices, a development like it would not get off the ground without public funds.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Metro Council committee has passed tax increment financing (TIF) for the One Park Development.

It passed the committee 6-2 with Council members Tammy Hawkins, D-1, and Donna Purvis, D-5 voting no.

The massive new project that would sit at Lexington Road and Grinstead Drive near Cherokee Park will include apartments, retail and a hotel.

Project developers argued Tuesday that with high construction prices, a development like it would not get off the ground without public funds.

Nearly 30 people showed up at Monday night’s meeting with many of them rejecting the project.

Bill Hollander, a former Metro Council member, shared the opposition.

"I supported the rezoning for the project when I was on Metro Council, but I think the developer should pay for it and not the taxpayers," he said.

If built as planned, developers would use $114 million in tax dollars over the next few decades.

The plan goes to the full Metro Council for a vote on Dec. 14.
