What you need to know about 'Operation White Flag' in Louisville

The South End Street Angels turned a church off Algonquin Parkway into a pop-up shelter in preparation for the cold weather heading to Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Operation White Flag goes into effect when Louisville Metro is undergoing a severe weather emergency, or extreme cold or heat. With that in mind, select shelters in the city are preparing to take in vulnerable populations. 

The participating Operation White Flag shelters include:

  • Wayside Christian Mission (accepts cats and dogs), 432 E. Jefferson St., 502/742-7019
  • Salvation Army Center for Hope (day shelter only), 911 S. Brook St., 502/671-4904
  • St. Vincent de Paul (men Only), 1034 South Jackson St., 502-584-2480 ext. 241

To locate the nearest shelter and to reserve a bed, residents also can call the Coordinated Shelter Access (CSA) line at (502) 637-2337. 

If the CSA line is closed (open 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.), contact the shelter directly.

  • Wayside Christian Mission, 432 East Jefferson Street, to reserve a bed call 502/637-2337, check-in is at 4 p.m.
  • Re:Center Ministries (Men only), 733 East Jefferson Street, to reserve a bed call 637-BEDS, check-in is at 7 p.m.
  • Salvation Army Center of Hope, 911 South Brook Street, to reserve a bed call 502/637-2337
    • Check-in time for women is 5 p.m.
    • Check-in time for men is 6 p.m.
    • Check-in time for young adults is 9 p.m.
  • Volunteers of America, 1321 South Preston Street, to reserve a bed, call 502/637-2337
  • The Healing Place, check-in time is 3:30 p.m., to reserve a bed, call 502/637-2337 
    • Men's shelter is 1020 West Market St.
    • Women's shelter is 1503 15th St.
