LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man has died after being hit by a vehicle on Poplar Level Road on Monday.

Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) said an off-duty officer found the man at the intersection of Poplar Level Road and Illinois Avenue around 8:40 a.m.

According to police, a preliminary investigation found the man was crossing Poplar Level from west to east in the middle of the roadway and wasn't in a crosswalk. The man was hit by a driver heading south on Poplar Level, LMPD said.

The injured pedestrian was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening conditions, police added. He died from his injuries a short time later.

Due to the severity of the man's injuries, LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.

LMPD said the driver of the vehicle was uninjured and no charges are expected.
