Louisville MSD: Crews work to repair large sinkhole in Phoenix Hill neighborhood

The sinkhole in the middle of Campbell Street was caused by a large sewer cave-in, according to Louisville MSD.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Drivers in the Phoenix Hill neighborhood should expect some delays Monday afternoon as crews work to repair a sinkhole.

The sinkhole on Campbell Street, between Liberty and Jefferson Streets, was caused by a large sewer cave-in, according to Louisville MSD.

According to Louisville MSD, crews are using a combination of replacement and lining on the 27-inch brick sewer line, which was originally built by hand in 1902. The excavation is roughly 15 feet deep. Crews will also replace a brick manhole with a modern concrete cast one.

Officials have shut down a portion of Campbell Street as crews work to repair the damage. There are also some lane closures on Jefferson Street near the area. Detour signs have been placed to help drivers navigate the closures.

The sewer line is expected to be repaired by the end of the week. MSD said there will no disruption of sewer service during the pipe's replacement.
