Pig Beach BBQ Louisville suddenly closes Waterfront Park restaurant

Waterfront Park said the owners of the New York-based restaurant “provided no advanced notice” of their decision to close and that they are working to find out why.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Just under a year after opening its location at Waterfront Park, Pig Beach BBQ Louisville is closed.

Officials with Waterfront Park said the owners of the New York-based restaurant “provided no advanced notice” of their decision to close and that they are working to find out why.

“We are disappointed Pig Beach BBQ has decided to close its doors.,” Deborah Bilitski, executive director of Waterfront Park, said in a statement on Sunday. “Waterfront Park strives every day to create a unique destination for everyone in our community. As we move forward, we will continue to innovate and invest in creating a welcoming space for all. This is an amazing site and we remain optimistic that with the right operator who understands that this is an extraordinary and dynamic space, it will be successful.”

The Brooklyn, New York-based barbecue restaurant opened their doors in September 2023 and said its “chef-driven barbecue marries tried-and-true technique with a dash of global eclecticism for a fantastically delicious, never pretentious, foray into the Smoked Meat Universe.”

The company has two other restaurants located in Queens, New York and West Palm Beach, Florida.

What’s next for the Waterfront property remains unclear. However, Waterfront Park owns the property on River Road and officials are looking for community members to provide suggestions and ideas on how the space could be used.

In the meantime, Waterfront Park said it would be working with consultants soon to identify and assess possible tenants.

Waterfront Park said it had a successful season and would be announcing a new partnership as the first section of Phase IV of the westward expansion is almost complete.
