(WHAS11) -- The Public Integrity Unit of Louisville Metro Police are investigating after the wrongful conviction of Edwin Chandler.
Chandler was convicted in 1993 of murdering store clerk Brenda Whitfield in a robbery.
Two years ago, Chandler's conviction was thrown out and Percy Phillips was charged with the murder.
Chandler says he was forced into giving a confession and police ignored tips and statements about the real killer.
The Public Integrity Unit is looking to see if any laws were broken during Chandler's initial investigation. The police department is also reviewing their policies regarding their investigative process. This all comes after a meeting between LMPD Chief Steve Conrad and Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell.
Chandler filed a civil lawsuit against the city and was recently awarded $8.5 million in a settlement.
