LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A motorcyclist is dead after a fiery crash shut down part of Preston Highway on June 19.

Louisville Metro Police officers were dispatched to the 5600 block of Preston Highway around 10:30 p.m. That's near East Indian Trail and just east of the airport.

Investigators' preliminary investigation and witness statements revealed a man, who has since been identified as 32-year-old William Burford, Jr., riding a motorcycle was traveling southbound on Preston, when for some unknown reason, he lost control and hit another vehicle traveling north. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire, and Burford died at the scene, according to police.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital where he is expected to survive.
