LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- West Louisville community center is getting an upgrade just in time for a busy summer.
One hundred sixty volunteers from GE Appliance spent the day working on the Salvation Army's Portland Community Center.
The renovation includes painting, landscaping, and new furniture and appliances.
The Salvation Army says they hope this renovation will bring more people to their center.
“We like to think of the Salvation Army as a lighthouse for the community, attracting people to come to our location, and prior to these renovations, it was a little bit uninviting. And we want the community to know that we're there for them and that they can come to us for assistance or refuge or spiritual help,” Jeremy Warf with Salvation Army said.
The Portland Community Center has served in its current location since 1963 and was last remodeled in 1995.
