LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- The moment it all came to light…MTV cameras were in Louisville's Cherokee Park for the meeting of R. Prophet, formally a member of the rap group Nappy Roots and the woman he thought was called Trinity. He said he'd been communicating with Trinity, who turned out to be professional model Jasmine Sanders.
The show hit the air on Wednesday night, July 22.
Trinity is actually Crystal Ramsey. She lives in Crestwood, Ky. and works at South Oldham Middle School.
WHAS11's Tabnie Dozier asked Ramsey Wednesday night at the Catfish watch party on Bardstown Road how this all came about. She said she created the profile to spy on her ex-boyfriend, when she then received a message from R. Prophet.
When asked about if she thought she'd ever get caught Ramsey said the following.
"I figured I would. If not I was just planning on shutting it down out of the blue," Ramsey said.
As R. Prophet explains it, he's been on a mission, fighting a police brutality case against Kentucky State Police that dates back to 2013 at a DUI checkpoint near Elizabethtown, he was not the driver.
He told WHAS11, "I was beat, broke my nose, beat head to toe, hog-tied and threw into the police car, tased 15 times. It was during that time the online relationship started."
"I look at it as I helped him through some rough times he was having and he was there to talk to me as well so we were there for one another," Ramsey said.
She also said she does have a few regrets.
"Just to, maybe have been honest from the beginning and let him know that's not who I really was, although it turned out better than most," Ramsey said.
For R. Prophet his focus remains on music and fighting his case that was highlighted on the Catfish episode. He said the internet can be a great tool used for good, but also it can uncover the truth that is sometimes hard to handle.
