LMPD confirms seventh victim in southwest Louisville parking lot shooting

The update came as LMPD addressed a violent weekend in the city where three people were killed and more than a dozen shot in separate incidents.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An 18-year-old gunshot victim arrived at UofL- Mary & Elizabeth Hospital on Monday, according to LMPD, with wounds from Sunday morning

The shooting happened when a graduation party spilled out of an event venue, Prestige by Luxe, at a strip mall in Pleasure Ridge Park. The gunfire came from within the crowd.

When LMPD arrived at the strip mall on Raggard Road, they found six people—five children and one adult—with gunshot wounds. The shooting happened around one in the morning on Sunday.

Police expect the victims will survive their injuries after they were treated at the hospital.

This followed a cycle of violence LMPD Homicide Lieutenant Les Skaggs is familiar with. "It's been a consistent over the past several years of violence, of retaliations, of grudges," he said.

In a statement shared on Facebook, the event venue said, "We've held hundreds of baby showers, weddings and special events, in which, we've never experienced such tragedy." They also committed to cooperating with LMPD's investigation.

The department's crime map data shows some assaults happened in the surrounding neighborhoods over the last year, but did not show any other violent crimes at the strip mall where the business is located.

In the aftermath of this and other shootings over the weekend, Mayor Craig Greenberg called for the state to give more legislative control over to Metro Council.

"We need more tools so that, locally, we can do what it takes to get these illegal guns off the street and stop people who have these illegal guns from using them for the wrong reason," the mayor said.

However, the Mayor was not specific about what tools the city needs. Previously, he pushed for the dismantling of guns used in violent crime and for more regulations on businesses where violence gravitates.

The comments came after a violent weekend in Louisville saw 17 people shot, three of them killed.

"This has been a very challenging time in our careers in the homicide unit," Lt. Skaggs said. "They work tirelessly long hours. Obviously, when we have a weekend like this, it takes every resource that we have. Many of those detectives are working multiple cases and multiple scenes through the weekend. So it takes a toll on all of us."

LMPD's non-fatal shooting squad is handling the investigation into the parking lot shooting. A department spokesperson for said they "are not prepared to publicly release theories or suspect information yet."

Their Anonymous Tip Line is 574-LMPD.
