Parts of rural eastern Jefferson County getting high speed internet

Spearheaded by Councilman Stuart Benson of District 20, this project has been in the works for more than a decade.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Editor's note: The above video is a live interview with Metro Councilmember Stuart Benson where he mentions getting high speed internet for his district in February 2024.

Nearly 2,000 households in rural eastern and southeastern Jefferson County are getting high speed internet soon.

Spearheaded by Councilman Stuart Benson of District 20, this project has been in the works for more than a decade.

Benson called high speed internet a "necessity for business, education, and civic life."

"This is undoubtedly one of the most important projects undertaken since the start of merged government," Benson said. "We are excited to announce that the entire county will soon have access to broadband they need to conduct business, educate themselves and make this community a stronger Metro Louisville."

Grants from the federal government and the state, as well as Spectrum's assistance made this expansion possible.

Officials said the total cost of the projects is $7.5 million.
