MARION COUNTY, Ky. — A teenage boy was arrested Monday after authorities say he threatened a Kentucky high school with gun violence on social media.
Marion County Public Schools in Kentucky announced yesterday classes would be cancelled for all students on Monday after officials were made aware of social media posts that made threats of violence to the school district.
"Out of an abundance of caution, there will be no school tomorrow Monday, September 9 in Marion County," the post said. "The school district is currently working with local law enforcement as they investigate this issue. We will provide additional information to families as it becomes available."
Kentucky State Police Troopers charged a 16-year-old boy with terroristic threatening (first degree). He was arrested Monday and transported to the local juvenile detention center, according to a KSP news release.
KSP officials advise parents to speak with their children about the dangers of posting threatening messages on social media and reporting any concerning information they may come across online.
