LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Two federal investigations are now underway after two gun shops were burglarized in two days. The incidents happened at Tilford's Discount Guns on Fern Valley Road and at 111 Gun Shop on Hurstbourne Parkway.
Both incidents happened around 5 a.m. and police said the criminals used the same tool to break in.
Jeffersontown Police Major Lee Meredith said, "It does appear to be very similar, vehicles backed into part of the wall of this business and that's apparently how they did it."
The first incident happened Wednesday morning at Tilford's Discount Guns. According to police, the criminals rammed a stolen corvette through the front door of the business, and then took off with at least two guns when the alarm went off.
Thursday morning police were called to a similar situation. They said at least one suspect crashed a stolen pick-up truck into 111 Gun Shop on Hurstbourne Parkway, and left with an undisclosed amount of guns. The area near Hurstbourne and Bluegrass Parkways was put on lock-down and SWAT was called in to help clear the building
Now police are warning other area gun shops owners to be on alert. Officials said they can't confirm if the two incidents are related but they aren't ruling it out.
One store owner told WHAS11 that police called him and offered to provide extra security at his business. Another owner said police came by to watch his surveillance tapes.
Officials said they are providing instructions to store owners to increase security in fear this could be a dangerous pattern.
"I have heard of these before. But they don't happen very often,” Meredith said.
Authorities are now taking action in hopes of stopping these attacks, which they call very dangerous and concerning.
So far, no arrests have been made in either case. Authorities are offering a $10,000 award for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the people responsible for these incidents.
