TAYLORSVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky teenager who went missing out of Spencer County on Aug. 30 has been found safe more than 40 days later.
On Monday, Oct. 16, the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office confirms Sophie Stump, 18, is no longer missing and has been located safe.
Authorities say Stump Facetimed her family which enabled police to ping her phone and located her in Lexington. Officers confirmed she was okay.
Since she was declared missing, she has turned 18 years. However, what transpired before she turned 18 is still under investigation.
At the time of her disappearance, Stump was last seen near Taylorsville Lake State Park. In an interview with WHAS11 News in September, Stump's family said the teen left her bedroom window open, leading them to believe she had plans to come home.
"I feel each day, it just gets scarier and scarier," Sara Huchingson, Stump's older sister and legal guardian, said.
She said Stump left behind all of her belongings, except for her cellphone.
"I text her every day, every other hour, like 'Hey, where you at? You need anything let me know. Like wherever you are, I'll come get you,'" Huchingson said. "But no messages deliver."
