LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- People spotting actor Nicolas Cage has been the talk of the town, as he shoots a new movie locally.
The movie is called Mom and Dad, the title sounds charming but it's a dark movie, and Wednesday an East End neighborhood was transformed into a movie location.
The producers are using local homes as movie sets and even using some local high school students as extras.
“It kind of came as a bit of a surprise, but I guess somebody in the neighborhood knows somebody,” said Brandon Durham.
Brandon Durham says about a month ago he heard whispers that Nicolas Cage would be shooting in his neighborhood, but he didn’t believe it until the trucks started rolling in.
“I think it’s pretty neat to see it first-hand,” said Durham. “It’s always kind of been a childhood dream of mine to be out there and be on a movie set. To actually have it here in your own backyard is pretty amazing.”
Durham wasn’t the only Louisville native to get a sneak-peak.
St. X High School served as a backdrop for a few scene and close to 75 students were called in as extras.
“I actually ran in the movie, which was pretty cool, on the same field,” said Michael Bailey. “I walked the halls, sat in the classroom that I used to actually be in. It was pretty cool.”
St. X grad Michael Bailey turned his experience into a Production Assistant job.
While political science major admits he isn’t sure if it’s necessarily the career path he wants to take he couldn’t pass up a once in a lifetime experience.
“I’m going to keep that in the archives,” said Bailey. “Whenever the movie comes out I’m going to buy the DVD to show all of my friends when I’m in college. I’ll hold onto that.”
