'They are not forgotten about:' Bullitt County collecting resources for hurricane victims

Bullitt County Emergency Services is holding a hurricane collection drive through Oct. 28 to send resources to those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. — Bullitt County Emergency Services are hosting their own drive to gather supplies for those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Hundreds of miles away, hurricane victims continue recovery efforts. Picking up their lives after two hurricanes made landfall just days apart from one another.

"Bullitt county agencies are very, very tremendous in helping those that are in need," said Nichols Fire District Firefighter Michael Wright. "If this was our community and we were impacted as bad as Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton, took place, we would be wanting help, as well."

Bullitt County Emergency Services knows the recovery efforts don't stop once the hurricane leaves land.

"We are in the first responder, emergency services business for a reason. Even though we are helping outside of our community, we still serve our community day in and day out. But let's take it to the next level. Let's try to help those that are still in need," Wright said. "When the impact happens, so many people want to help then and there, but what happens two to three weeks down the road? What happens to a month down the road when resources are still needed? So that's what this project is basically about, is making sure that those remember that they are not forgotten about."

Bullitt County Emergency Services are collecting things like gas cans, hot hands, brooms, and flashlights. They are collecting through October 28.

Here are the drop off locations:

Oct. 21 through Oct. 23 - Shepherdsville Walmart

Oct. 24 through Oct. 25 - LJ Firehouse Parking Lot

Each day, the drop off sites will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.

If you are unable to make it to one of these drops off locations you may drop your items off at your local fire department.
